ROB Swaine believes his teammates have the ability to get to the Conference South play-offs next season.

Talking after being joined by Greg Oates to lift the Ryman Premier League trophy, the Billericay club captain felt the side could keep going up.

Swaine said: “Next season, I think we’re probably be going for the play-offs.

“We are going in with what I feel is a strong team and with a few tweeks here and there, who knows what the future holds.”

Swaine also said it has been the best season of his career, bagging 14 goals and lifting the trophy at the end of the campaign as captain, which he said was very important to him.

With the appearance of Nicky Morgan bringing an emotional start to the match, Swaine said the goalkeeper’s rehabilitation along with other events at the club has brought the players together.

“There have been a lot of incidents this season with Nicky plus what happened to [Chris] Wild and Tony Boot,” he said.

“But after Nicky’s injury, it really united us and made us a much closer family and much more determined. This title win is dedicated to Nicky.”

Oates, who started off the season as captain before Swaine took over, said the team are still over the moon with the title win, even though losing to Lowestoft did spoil the party a little bit.

“When you lose it does dampen it a bit.” Oates said. “It all feels a bit weird after last Saturday after all the hype and buzz of winning the title last week.

“But you have got to try and enjoy the moment and remember you’re league champions.”
