CAMERON Belford will not be joining Southend United on a permanent basis.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who ended last season on loan at Roots Hall, revealed in yesterday’s Echo he was keen to stay with Blues.

But, after holding further talks with Southend manager Paul Sturrock yesterday, Belford has now begun the search for another club.

“I can officially confirm that I sadly won’t be joining Southend next season,” said Belford.

“I’d like to thank the club and their great fans for the opportunity and support they gave me during my time there.

“Southend will always have a special place in my heart and I wish the club all the very best for next season and hope they get the promotion they fully deserve.”

Belford made 15 appearances while with Blues on loan from Bury and kept eight clean sheets during his spell at the club.
