ESSEX cricketer Graham Napier said his Olympic highlight was seeing Essex-girl Sally Gunnell win gold in the 400m hurdles in Barcelona in 1992.
The big-hitting batsman also said he fondly recalled decathlete Daley Thompson’s gold medal heroics in LA in 1984, and also swimmer Adrian Moorhouse winning the 100m breaststroke title in Seoul 1988.
Napier said: “It was great seeing Sally Gunnell win that medal, you could tell what it meant to her and it was great for Essex too.
“And I also have a very vague memory of Daley Thompson, and I remember my mum and dad getting very excited about it. But what I really remember about that time was a computer game on the ZX Spectrum in which you had move the joystick really fast to get Daley Thompson to run!”
