MOST footballers will soon be heading off on holiday – but not Southend United’s Barry Corr.

The injury plagued striker will be continuing his rehabilitation work throughout the summer break.

And he is desperate to regain full fitness in time for the start of pre-season training.

“I will be carrying on with my training and, touch wood, things are starting to look more positive for me,” said Corr, who missed all of last season with a knee problem.

“I’m outside running again and my gym work has also increased so hopefully I will be back for the start of pre-season training on July 9.

“If I’m honest I don’t really like talking about it or people asking when I’m going to be back because I don’t want to tempt fate or end up disappointed.

“But things are starting to improve for me and I really hope that can continue.”

Corr will only allow himself a five or six day break before the start of next season when he is aiming to back in the Blues side.

The Irishman’s current contract will expire at the end of June.

But he is due to holds talks over a new deal with the club’s hierarchy today.

“I fully understand where I am at the moment,” said Corr, who had previously hinted he was hopeful of being offered a pay as you play type deal.

“The club have been loyal to me and I will be loyal to them but they knew when I’m fit I’m a good player and I showed that in my first season here.”
