Southend United's Tamika Mkandawire out to upset former manager Martin Ling at Torquay United
SOUTHEND United’s Tamika Mkandawire knows only too well what to expect from Martin Ling’s Torquay United team at the Plainmoor Stadium tomorrow.
Ling signed the 29-year-old midfielder during his time in charge of Leyton Orient.
And Mkandawire therefore feels the Gulls will be tough opposition this weekend.
“I know their manager well and he’s very good at organising teams,” said Mkandawire.
“He signed me for Leyton Orient and was keen for us to play good football so I’m expecting the same from Torquay.
“They’re having another good season and they’re just outside the play-offs at the moment.
“They have a good record at home as well so we’re in for a difficult game.
“But we’ve done well recently too and want to try and keep that going.”
Blues have not been beaten in their last four games and have risen up to 11th in the League Two table.
They now sit just three points below the play-off places but Mkandawire was keen to play down his part in the recent turn around in form.
“The team had been doing well before I got here and I’ve been pleased to have helped them keep it going,” said Mkandawire.
“I’m enjoying playing again and it’s a good midfield to be a part of.
“I know Marc Laird from Millwall and Michael Timlin is a great player too so things have been going well so far and hopefully that can continue.”
