BEN Reeves’ only previous experience of Wembley came at a previous final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

But this Sunday the on-loan Southampton midfielder hopes to be playing, not watching.

The 21-year-old was sat in the stands when the Saints beat Carlisle United 4-1 back in 2010.

And, after scoring the game’s decisive goal in the southern section final against Leyton Orient, Reeves is now desperate to shake off a slight quad problem and figure this weekend.

“A Wembley final is always a very special occasion no matter what competition it’s in, so it will be a special day for me and also my family,” said Reeves.

“Southampton won quite comfortably when I was there before and that’s the only time I’ve ever been to Wembley.

“There was a big crowd there that day and the atmosphere was tremendous.

“To think I now have the chance of playing there myself is brilliant.

“Not many players get that opportunity during their career, so I’m very excited, and, touch wood, the injury I’ve picked up will be fine by the weekend too because it will a great occasion, especially as we have so many fans going to the game.”

Blues look set to be roared on by more than 30,000 supporters at Wembley.

And Reeves has already worked his way into many of their hearts after his last-gasp goal against Orient in the previous round of the JPT.

“The goal just came out of the blue and I just didn’t know what to do when it went in,” said the midfielder.

“I’m more used to scoring goals in reserve games in front of a few hundred people than in a game like that, but it was a great moment.

“I think everyone was dreading the tie going to penalties, so we were all delighted to win it at the end like we did and make sure we got to Wembley.”
