SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is targeting moves for two of his former Hull City players, Andy Dawson and Craig Fagan.

Left-back Dawson, 34, has just been released by the Tigers after 10 years with the club while Fagan is also available on a free transfer after leaving Bury.

And the Echo understands Brown has made enquiries about bringing them both to Blues.

“Phil knows all about these two players and the qualities they possess,” said a source close to the club.

“He’s certainly interested in them both but it’s still early stages and any possible transfer is still quite a long way off.”

Dawson, who is the brother of Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael, made 317 appearances during his spell with the Tigers having previously been at Scunthorpe United.

However, the Iron are also believed to be interesting in signing the defender and he could well favour a switch closer to his home.

Fagan could therefore be the more likely of the two to sign.

The 30-year-old, who can play up front or on the wing, ended last season with Bury but is now looking for another club after being released by the Shakers.

Fagan began his career with Birmingham City before joining Colchester United after a short spell on loan at Bristol City.

Fagan scored 24 goals in 72 games while with the U’s before spending two seasons with Hull.

He hit the back of the net 15 times in 84 appearances for the Tigers before joining Derby for £750,000 in January 2007.

But he scored just twice in 47 games before returning to Hull, where he worked under Brown and scored five times in 67 appearances.

Fagan then joined Bradford in September 2011 and scored eight goals in 32 appearances before joining Bury last February.

However, he was unable to help keep the Shakers in League One and is now searching for a new club.
