FORMER Doncaster Rovers boss Dave Penney has been confirmed as Southend United´s new assistant manager.
Echosport revealed last month how Penney looked set to join manager Phil Brown at Roots Hall.
And his arrival has now been sealed, along with Bob Shaw as chief scout.
“Dave and Bob have both put pen to paper now and I´m absolutely delighted about that,” said Shrimpers boss Brown.
“I´ve never actually worked with Dave before but we´ve been on courses together and he was actually at the airport with me when I first got the call from Ron Martin to talk about the Southend job.
“I´ve always been an admirer of his teams and it´s great he´s agreed to come in.”
Despite, Penney´s arrival Graham Coughlan will also be staying with Southend as first team coach and that also delights Brown.
“I´m hoping Graham will also sign a new deal this week and that´s fantastic news,” said Brown.
“With him staying I think we now have a formidable back room team.”
