ELLIOT Lee will today discover the severity of the hamstring injury which stopped him making his Southend United debut at Mansfield Town on Saturday.

As was revealed in Friday’s Echosport, the 19-year-old striker signed for the Shrimpers on a three month loan deal from West Ham United.

But the youngster got injured within the first hour of training and will have a scan on his hamstring this afternoon.

“Elliot came to us fully fit but 35 minutes in to his first session he pulled up with a muscle strain,” said Blues boss Phil Brown.

“He’s gone back to get that assessed at West Ham and will have a scan today. “That will tell us more but hopefully it won’t be too bad.”

Lee will be with Blues until January and has been given permission to play in the FA Cup when fit.

As the Echo also revealed, Jakub Sokolik has returned to the Shrimpers for an initial 28 days.

And, despite the defender making a mistake for Mansfield’s goal, Brown was delighted with his display.

“Jakub didn’t just head the Mansfield heads he was heading Southend heads too,” smiled Brown.

“Ryan Leonard got one from him and so too did David Worrall who had to have a couple of stitches on his lip.

“Jakub’s a tough lad, a no-nonsense centre half who can also play when he’s on the ball.

“I’m delighted to get him back but I don’t want him to do too well because they might want him back then!

“He wasn’t enjoying his football at Yeovil but he enjoyed today and hopefully he will enjoy the rest of the month too.”
