SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is keen to keep both Gary Deegan and Jerome Binnom-Williams at the club.

Deegan’s short team contract with the Shrimpers expires next week while Binnom-Williams’ loan spell from Crystal Palace ends at the end of the month.

But Brown, who recalled the duo for Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Plymouth Argyle, wants them both to remain at Roots Hall.

“I want them both to stay with us and I will be having the necessary talks to try and make that happen,” said the Blues boss.

“I thought Deegs did a great job against Plymouth. He had been out of the team for while and Michael Timlin was disappointed to be left out at the weekend.

“But I thought we would need that extra bite in midfield and it was there in abundance.

“It’s also more simple to keep Gary here because he’s out player it’s just a case of trying to extend the deal now.

”I thought he showed the passion to wear the shirt on Saturday and long may that continue.”

Midfielder Deegan has made 15 appearances for the Shrimpers since signing in late August while left-back Binnom-Williams has played 14 times.

He impressed in a more central defensive position against Plymouth at the weekend.

And Blues boss Brown will now be holding talks with new Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew about the 19 year old’s future.

“I’ve left it a little while to contact Alan because he will have been getting his feet under the table,” said Brown.

“He will be getting to know the players he has at the club, let alone those who are out on loan.

“But I will hopefully speak to Alan soon.

“I'll put a call in to him because I would love to keep Jerome here until the end of the season or even on a permanent basis.

“I'll be having words with Alan along those lines too.”
