SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is waiting to discover the seriousness of Daniel Bentley’s groin injury.

The Shrimpers shot-stopper was forced to miss Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Accrington Stanley at Roots Hall.

And Brown is now sweating on the results of a scan Bentley underwent yesterday.

“We won’t really know too much more bout Dan’s injury until we get the results of his scan back,” said the Blues boss.

“He’s been to see a specialist as well and now it’s just a case of waiting to find out what the scan shows up.

“Hopefully it won’t be anything bad and if he’s fit for Saturday’s game against Stevenage then he will play.

“But if he isn’t then he obviously won’t.”

Bentley missed his first League Two game of the season at the weekend, due to the injury which left him struggling to kick.

In his place, England under 19 international Ted Smith was handed his debut between the sticks instead of namesake Paul.

That was despite Paul Smith being selected on the substitutes’ bench for every league game this term.

But Brown would not comment on who would now be second choice when Bentley did return between the sticks.

“We will cross that bridge when it comes to it,” he added.
