SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown admits he will soon be facing a selection headache in goal.
First choice shot-stopper Daniel Bentley could be fit enough to figure against Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.
But his replacement Ted Smith has kept two successive clean sheets in Bentley’s absence.
And his displays have given Brown plenty to ponder.
“Ted Smith has been brilliant, he’s got the two clean sheets and has shown what he can do so I’ll be facing a difficult decision soon,” said the Shrimpers boss.
“At the weekend he also made what I think has to be the best save of the season when he tipped a 93rd minute header over the crossbar from point blank range.
“Their lad was offside at the time but Ted didn’t know that and we’re delighted with how he’s performed.
“But Dan had been very consistent before getting injured so it will be a tough decision to make.”
Bentley has missed three of Blues’ last four games with a groin problem.
However, he is now close to making a return.
“The standard of treatment Dan has been getting is Premier League class,” said Brown.
“He’s been to a cryotherapy chamber this week and that will have sped up his recovery.”
