SOUTHEND United centre-back Luke Prosser was keen to point towards the positives following the Shrimpers 1-0 defeat to Swindon Town.

Blues' latest setback at Roots Hall left them still searching for their first victory of the new season.

But the recalled Prosser urged Phil Brown's side to remain upbeat.

"We need to keep our heads up because we played some really good football again out there," said the centre-back.

"We had the better chances but we couldn't put them away.

"At this moment in time it's just not dropping for us but we have to look at all of the positives.

"If we had played badly and lost then it would've been far worse but I think you can see a lot of good signs out there."

Prosser, who made his 150th appearance for the Shrimpers at Doncaster Rovers, replaced the injured Cian Bolger in the starting line-up against the Robins.

And the left footed defender had no qualms about lining up to the right of Adam Barrett at the centre of Southend's back four.

"I was desperate to play and it's not much different playing on the right to be honest," said Prosser, 27.

"It's unusual to have two lefties and I've probably only played there three or four times in my career but I felt it went alright but it was just extremely disappointing to lose the game."

Fabien Robert bagged the only goal of the afternoon midway through the second half for Swindon.

And Prosser felt the Frenchman's fine finish underlined the superior quality at League One level.

"The difference this year is the teams we're playing are far more clinical and we've seen that again here," said the defender.

"Daniel Bentley didn't really have a save to make but they've taken the one real chance that came their way.

"It's hard to take but we have to keep our heads up and go again at Coventry next Monday which is a massive match for us now."
