SOUTHEND United centre-back Adam Barrett is set for an extended spell on the sidelines with a hamstring problem.

Barrett picked up the injury just seconds after scoring at Millwall 11 days ago.

And further scans have now shown the problem to be far worse than first feared, much to the disappointment of manager Phil Brown.

“It’s not clever news where Adam is concerned,” said Brown.

“He’s ruptured his hamstring and will be out for longer than we first imagined.

“We can’t say how long he will be out for just yet and I don’t want to be jumping the gun on that one.

“This is not a good sign but hopefully we can get him back as quickly as we can.”
