SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin says he has not been contacted by Sunderland to speak to manager Phil Brown.

The Shrimpers boss has been linked to a coaching position at the Stadium of Light following the appointment of his close friend Sam Allardyce as manager.

But Martin insists there has been approach from the Premier League strugglers.

“There has been no contact whatsoever,” said Martin.

“I don’t understand why there would be either.

“Most assistant mangers aspire to be managers, not the reverse.”

Brown has been in charge of Blues since March 2013 and guided them to promotion from League Two last season.
