SOUTHEND United striker Noel Hunt has hit out at Chesterfield for mocking Shrimpers’ physiotherapist Ben Clarkson on their official Twitter account.

The Spireites made reference to Clarkson’s size and also tweeted a picture of him after he came onto the pitch to treat striker Joe Pigott.

But, despite them later sending an apology to Clarkson, Hunt has now slammed Chesterfield’s views.

“A disgusting and amateur couple of remarks from Chesterfield media on Tuesday night,” tweeted Hunt.

“They should be ashamed of themselves. Not only that they were said from a professional football club’s media team but that they're still on the site today.

“How can we fight to cut out things like racism, homophobia and general discrimination when a football club clearly condone these comments.

“It’s disgusting!

The tweets were also widely criticised by Southend’s supporters but remain visible on Chesterfield’s Twitter account.
