X-RAYS have confirmed Southend United midfielder Gary Deegan did not suffer any broken ribs during Saturday’s clash with Coventry City.

The Irishman, who was sent off during the 3-0 victory, was taken to Southend Hospital in some discomfort immediately after the game at Roots Hall.

But medical experts confirmed Deegan’s ribs had only been bruised, much to the relief of Blues boss Phil Brown.

“Gary went to hospital after the game because he was in a bit of a pain and we thought he had cracked ribs,” said Brown.

“It’s nothing serious though thankfully and they’re just bruised.”

However, Deegan will still miss the Shrimpers’ next game at Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday with a one match suspension as a result of his red card against his former side.
