SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown is to meet with Franck Moussa for talks today.

The Belgian midfielder ended last season back with the Blues and.

And Brown is keen to find out if the midfielder is keen on remaining at Roots Hall.

“I’m meeting with Franck to go over things and see what he’s thinking for next season,” said the Blues boss.

“Hopefully it’s one we can get over the line.”

Moussa scored against Bury on the final game of the League One season in the only appearance he made for the Shrimpers last term.

Moussa, who came through the youth system at Southend, came back to the club in March but has been dogged by injuries in recent seasons, making just 24 appearances in the past two campaigns.

However, Brown is keen to strengthen his options in midfield and Echosport understands Robbie Weir, who has just been released by Burton Albion, is another potential option.

Weir, 27, made 38 appearances for the Brewers last season as they won promotion from League One.

But he is now among Brown’s transfer targets, along with a striker who also played in League One last season and is also available on a free transfer.
