RYAN Inniss played the full 90 minutes for Southend United's under 21 team in their 2-1 defeat at Barnet this afternoon.

The on loan Crystal Palace defender lined up at the heart of a back five against the Bees.

And Blues' under 21 manager Kevin Maher was happy to see Inniss last the full game.

"Ryan suffered no problems and did well," said the former Shrimpers midfielder.

"He got what he needed from the game it was just disappointing we didn't play too well.

"Barnet had a bit more experience than us in their line-up and it showed but too many of our lads had an off day."

Barnet raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Ryan Watson and Shane Cojocarel before centre-back Dan Matsuzaka netted for the Shrimpers late on.

Blues also introduced defender Sonny Coutts for the final half an hour as the youngster ended a frustrating 10 month spell out of action with a knee problem.

And Maher was pleased to see Coutts back in action.

"Sonny has been out for quite some time so it was great to have him back with us playing again," said Maher.

"He played the last 30 minutes and came through it unscathed so I'm sure that's given him a massive boost.

"He'll now be looking to push on and get more minutes and matches under his belt."

Blues had been hoping earlier in the week that the game may see both Michael Timlin and Anthony Wordsworth return from hamstring injuries.

However, neither of the first team midfielders were involved against the Bees.
