BEN Coker is eager for Southend United to secure back to back victories for the first time since February when they head to Northampton Town tomorrow.

Blues got back to winning ways with a 3-1 triumph against Millwall last weekend.

And the Shrimpers left-back is now eager for Phil Brown’s side to embark on a winning run of results.

“Games are coming thick and fast now so we need to get a run going, which I think we’re capable of doing with the players we have here,” said the defender.

“We also have others people coming back from injury as well at the moment, which is going to help everyone.”

Blues have won just twice in the league so far this season.

But Coker feels the victory against Millwall - in the Shrimpers’ last outing - has given the team a huge lift ahead of Saturday’s game at the Sixfields Stadium.

“The Millwall win was massive for us and it was a bit of a relief as well,” said Coker.

“We knew we had that it in us but now we need to get on a good run and push on.

“The formation seems to suit us but we will see what Saturday brings now,”

Blues are likely to stick with the 3-4-3 system which worked well against the Lions.

And Coker feels the Shrimpers are all fully aware of what is expected from them in the new formation.

“Maybe earlier on in the season people weren’t too sure on what their jobs were but now it’s all been made clear,” said Coker.

“Training has been really good in the last couple of weeks as well.

“It’s all been at a really high tempo and if we keep that going then it will be good.”

However, Coker also wants the Shrimpers fans to play their part in securing more victories.

“The crowd on Saturday was brilliant against Millwall and we need them to be right behind us like that in every game,” said the full-back.

“I know from speaking to fans around the town that they are right behind us at the minute, which is what we need so we can all push on together.”

But Northampton are likely to provide a tough test this weekend.

The Cobblers have not been beaten at home since December 2015.

And Coker is expecting another tricky afternoon.

“Northampton hadn’t lost in a stupid amount of games until last weekend, so it will be another tough game because they’re a good side,” said Coker.

“We know what they are all about but we’ll just have to do our homework and get at them.

“We need to get right in their faces and give them a real good game if we are to get the result we all want and need.”
