SOUTHEND United have opted against bringing in former Liverpool left-back Andrea Dossena.

The 35-year-old Italian was offered to the Shrimpers for a trial.

But Echosport understands Blues have opted against bringing him to Roots Hall.

Dossena has won 10 caps for Italy during his career.

And he memorably scored for Liverpool in a 4-0 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League back in 2009.

Dossena has also lined up for Verona, Treviso, Udinese, Napoli, Palermo, Sunderland, Leyton Orient and Chiasso during his career.

But the experienced defender is currently without a club.

Shrimpers boss Phil Brown revealed last week how an international left-back with Champions League experience could be coming to the club for a trial after he was approached by an agent.

However, Brown has now decided against bringing him in.

The Shrimpers have Ben Coker as their first-choice left-back again this season.

And youngster Harry Kyprianou has replaced him when required this term.
