SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heads into tomorrow’s game with Chesterfield happy to have received the backing of chairman Ron Martin.

The Shrimpers supremo told Echosport earlier this week that he believes Brown will turn the team’s stuttering season around.

And Brown is pleased to have Martin’s continued confidence.

“I’ve had nothing but support from Ron Martin the whole time I’ve been at the football club and I hope that continues through these tough times,” said Brown.

“It is a tough time at the moment but I’m paid to make sure we all come through it in a positive way and that’s what we will be trying to do, starting with the game on Saturday.”

Blues head into the match in 22nd place.

And Brown was not concerned by the vote of confidence despite many fans believing it is often followed by the sack.

“I’m not a big believer in votes of confidence getting you the sack,” said Brown.

“This is the Echo asking a question and the chairman answering it in a positive way.”
