BLUES boss Phil Brown is already relishing his side’s FA Cup clash with Millwall.

The Shrimpers will visit the New Den in the first round of the competition at the start of November.

And Brown is looking forward to taking on the Londoners.

“I really do think it’s a great draw and it’s a tie we’re excited about,” said the 57-year-old.

“Obviously we would have preferred to have been at home and Millwall is never a nice place to go and play.

“But we beat them 3-1 at our place only a few weeks ago so hopefully we can go and win at their ground too because it would certainly be nice to have a good cup run.”

Blues are currently one point and one place above the Lions - who are managed by former Southend striker Neil Harris - in the League One table.

And it promises to be an interesting afternoon for the Shrimpers’ outgoing chief executive Steve Kavanagh who will soon be making the switch to Millwall.

“The way it’s worked out I think I’m right in saying that Steve’s first game with Millwall is actually going to be against us,” said Brown.

“It’s funny how these things seem to happen quite often in football and they also have Mr Worrall as well.

“There was a great atmosphere last time we played them and, it’s not far too go, so I’m sure our fans will travel in good numbers again and get right behind us.

“It will be a good day but we have two important league games to be thinking about before the FA Cup can even enter our minds.”
