FORMER Reading winger Jimmy Kebe is on trial at Southend United.

The 32-year-old, who is currently without a club, trained with the Shrimpers yesterday.

And Blues boss Phil Brown is likely to spend the next week running the rule over the Frenchman.

“Jimmy Kebe is in with us at the moment and trained yesterday,” confirmed Brown.

“I remember when I was manager at Preston North End he absolutely destroyed us in a game so he’s certainly worth taking a look at.

“He’s got pace, can use both feet and can play on either flank.

“He’s been playing abroad but hasn’t got himself a club so we’ll have a look at him for a week and see where that takes us.

“He could maybe play in an under 21 game next week too.”

Kebe played for Lens B and also had loan spells with Châteauroux and Boulogne before teaming up with Reading in 2008.

Kebe made 180 appearances during a five year spell with the Royals, scoring 31 goals.

The winger has also lined up for Crystal Palace and Leeds and played for Mali at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
