SOUTHEND United are waiting on the results of a scan on Zavon Hines’ knee before deciding whether or not to snap up the winger.

The former Bradford City wide-man has impressed while on trial with the Shrimpers.

But Blues boss Phil Brown is keen to make sure Hines is fully fit before completing a deal to sign him.

“There’s a surgeon we use who is the best around and we want him to have a look at a scan we’ve had done on Zavon’s knee before we conclude a deal,” said Brown.

“Zavon has had two operations on the same knee, the second of which was actually done by the surgeon we’re speaking to but he’s away until Tuesday so we’re going to have to wait until then.

“There’s a deal on the table for Zavon but it’s dependant on what the scan shows up because I don’t want to be wasting the chairman’s money.”

A move for Hines will therefore not be completed before tomorrow’s game with Walsall and Southend do not play after that until Tuesday December 6 when they face Oxford United in the Checkatrade Trophy at Roots Hall.

A deal with Hines can still be completed at any time as he is currently without a club.

But the 27-year-old winger - who started his career at West Ham United - has not played a first team fixture since coming on as a late substitute for Dagenham & Redbridge at Notts County in September 2015.
