SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown heads into the final day of the transfer window still in talks with five of his striking targets.
Arsenal youngster Stephy Mavididi - who was with Blues as a youngster - Charlton Athletic’s Nicky Ajose and Reading’s Dominic Samuel are among those being tracked.
But Brown is also keen to bring in another defender before tonight’s 11pm cut off point.
“I don’t know what will happen but an ideal deadline day would be to sign a striker and a defender,” said Brown.
“We’re still in talks with five strikers and we have one or two defenders we’re talking to as well.
“Lots of clubs are interested in the same players as us but we’ll be doing all we can to make sure they choose us.”
