SOUTHEND United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth has declared himself fit for what he feels is a must win match at Chesterfield tomorrow.

Wordsworth missed Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Charlton with a neck problem.

But is now ready to face the Spireites as Blues bid to get their push for the play-offs back on track.

“I’ll be fit for Friday and it’s a must win game for us,” said Wordsworth.

“If we lose then we’ll only have a slim hope for the play-offs and we will be relying heavily on other teams.

“We don’t want that and, with everything to play for, I’m happy to be back.”

Wordsworth was a frustrated spectator at the Valley as the Shrimpers suffered a second successive defeat.

But the 28-year-old admitted there was no way he could have taken to the pitch.

“I couldn’t look left or right because of my neck last weekend so there was no way I could play,” said Wordsworth.

“It was disappointing having to watch because it was a big game and we had such great support.

“But I have to say I thought Luke Amos was brilliant just like he is in training every day.

“We’re all determined to bounce back and I’ll be ready to play if selected.

Seventh placed Blues are currently a point below the play-off places with four games to go.”
