SOUTHEND United midfielder Anthony Wordsworth faces a fight to be fit for pre-season training after undergoing surgery on his hamstring.

Wordsworth, who missed Blues’ last two games of the season with the injury, went under the knife yesterday afternoon.

And Shrimpers boss Phil Brown is unsure whether or not the 28-year-old will be fit for any of pre-season.

“Woody has had the operation now and the diagnosis we’ve been given is that he’s going to be out for three months so it’s touch and go for whether or not he’ll be fit during pre-season,” said Brown.

“It’s the opposite hamstring to the one which was operated on last summer and hopefully he’ll recover quicker than expected because it would be a big boost to have him fit and raring to go for the start of the season.”
