DAN Walker and Norman Wabo continued their successful strike-partnership to fire Southend United’s under 21 team to a 2-0 win against Norwich City at Roots Hall this afternoon.

The duo bagged more than 40 goals between them in their final season of youth team football before netting five times in four games together during a recent loan spell at Cambridge City.

And Blues’ under 21 coach Kevin Maher was happy to see the duo continue their scoring streak against the Canaries.

“It was good to see them score and I think that loan spell did them the world of good,” said Maher.

“They went there together and they have a partnership going between them.

“They’re both goalscorers and they’ve carried on that form from their loan spell here so I’m really pleased.”

Walker fired Blues in front at the start of the second half after Harry Phillips had seen his effort parried out by the Norwich goalkeeper.

Wabo then completed the scoring with a controlled finish from close range and Maher was pleased to see his side finish the season in style.

“I really enjoyed it,” said Maher.

“It was an end of season game and the players’ minds could have been on their holidays but the way they approached the game and applied themselves was brilliant.

“It was a competitive game and I thought we played really well at times.”
