ADAM Thompson has signed for Bury after turning down Southend United’s offer of a new contract.
Thompson had been with the Shrimpers since 2013.
And the centre-back told Echosport it had been a difficult choice to make.
“It was an incredibly tough decision for me,” said Thompson.
“But ultimately of the offers I received Bury’s facilities and ambition stood out most along with the effort they put into signing me.
“It just felt right to embark on a new challenge with them.”
Thompson departs after making 120 appearances for Blues and was keen to thank the club for their support.
"I want to thank everyone at Southend for a memorable four years," said the defender who played 45 times last season.
"The support shown to me by everyone involved at the club over the years has meant a lot.
"I want to thank Phil Brown, Ron Martin and the fans for the opportunities they afforded me and I wish the club all the best for the coming season."
