DRU Yearwood is convinced Southend United’s luck is about to change.

The 17-year--old midfielder was unable to stop the Shrimpers suffering a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury Town on his return to the starting line-up on Tuesday night.

But the youngster is confident Blues will be able to get back on track when they host Northampton Town at Roots Hall tomorrow.

“Shrewsbury are top of the league but we very unlucky not to take anything from the game and I think our luck definitely has to change soon if we keep on playing like that,” said Yearwood.

“I thought we should maybe have had a penalty and we came close to scoring a few times but there’s nothing we can do about it now.

“We have to focus on the next game and getting the right result in that one.”

Blues head into the game against Northampton looking to end a winless streak of eight matches.

But Yearwood is still confident of being able to beat the Cobblers, despite them have won both their matches since Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took control.

“I’ve looked at Northampton’s results and I’ve seen that they’re flying at the minute,” said the youngster.

“But we just have to go into this game the same way as any other and we have to be confident too after the way we played the other night.”

However, Yearwood - who has come through the youth ranks at Roots Hall - believes Blues must improve in front of goal if they are to get back to winning ways.

“It’s tiny things stopping us from winning at the moment but our finishing is the main thing,” said Yearwood.

“We all need to be composed with our final pass or shot but we know what we need to do and we’ve been working on it this week.”

Blues have scored just once in their last last three games but Yearwood relished being back in the side at Shrewsbury and hopes to have done enough to stay in the starting line-up.

“The start was a little bit of a surprise on Tuesday but I enjoyed and I would love to get another one at the weekend,” said the midfielder.

“I still feel like an under 18 player with the first team but they all really help me and I always want to make sure I don’t let anyone down.”
