ECHOSPORT takes a closer look at tomorrow’s opponents Bury.

THE SEASON SO FAR

Bury are currently 21st in the League One table with 12 points from their first 13 games.

The Shakers triumphed in just one of their first 11 outings in all competitions but have won three of their last five games.

RECENT FORM

Bury were beaten 2-1 at Blackpool on Tuesday night and have yet to win away from home in the League this season.

STYLE OF PLAY

Tempo is everything to Bury boss Lee Clark so do not expect the Southend midfield and defence to be given much time and space.

After a tricky start, with many new faces to gel together following a busy summer in the transfer market, the Shakers boss has hit upon a 3-4-1-2 formation.

DANGERMAN

Jermaine Beckford has scored eight goals this season, including six in his last seven games.

He has benefited from a regular strike partner in Michael Smith, while Chris Maguire has provided the creative spark by playing just in behind the front two.

TEAM NEWS

Jay O’Shea, a summer signing from Chesterfield, is pushing for a place in the starting line-up after returning from a knee injury sustained on the opening day of the season.

He may well be asked to continue as an impact player from the bench, though.

First-choice goalkeeper Joe Murphy is also understood to have recovered from an injury and could come into the starting line-up.

PREDICTED STARTING LINE-UP

Murphy; Aldred, O’Connell, Edwards; Williams, Laurent, Reilly, Leigh; Maguire; Smith, Beckford.
