MICHAEL Turner is positive he can secure his first League win with Southend United tomorrow.

Turner has impressed at the heart of the back four since recovering from a hamstring problem which delayed his start to the season.

But the 34-year-old has yet to help the Shrimpers pick up three points and he is determined for that to end against Oldham Athletic at Roots Hall.

“I was really pleased to have come through three games in eight days but would obviously have liked better results,” said Turner, who had not featured in the League before the busy schedule.

“I’ve been pleased with my level of fitness and I’ve been surprised by it too if I’m honest.

“I’m in a stronger place now going into the weekend and we’re feeling positive going into the Oldham game too.

“We should have won both the drawn games so we just have to keep on doing what we’re doing and keep on playing well because if we do results will start to turn.

“It would be great to get the first League win tomorrow.”

A Shrimpers victory would see them move up to ninth in the League One standings.

And Turner is keen to maintain the team’s unbeaten record at Roots Hall.

“We’re unbeaten at home in the League this season and we’re proud of that record so we want to keep it going,” said Turner.

“It’s a game we can win and we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure that happens.

“There’s a good feeling still among the lads and the confidence is still there because we’re playing well.”
