BILEL Mohsni did not figure in Saturday’s 2-1 triumph for Southend United at Accrington Stanley after an astonishing midweek bust-up.

Club chiefs stated the fiery Frenchman did not figure at the Crown Ground because fasting for Ramadan had left him short of energy.

But the Echo can reveal that the centre-back’s aggression spilt over in the changing room after last Tuesday’s Carling Cup defeat against Leyton Orient.

And that was one of a trio of tussles involving Blues players in the last few days.

For the on-loan Alassane N’Diaye clashed with Jemal Johnson in training and is expected be heading back to Crystal Palace sooner rather than expected.

And Anthony Grant became involved with a number of the Accrington players by the changing rooms after a fiery finish to Saturday’s game.

The incidents are believed to have frustrated manager Paul Sturrock and his assistant Graham Coughlan who, according to a source close to the club, are keen to stamp this kind of behaviour out.

“Paul and Graham have put a lot of focus on better discipline following a number of on and off-field problems last season, so the club is taking this very seriously,” said the source.

“The players are really fired up this year to get promotion but this is boiling over.

“The passion is there but we just need to make sure it’s channelled.”

That is certainly the case with Mohsni who shocked his team-mates with his antics after the final whistle against the O’s.
