PETER Gilbert wants Southend United to record back-to-back home wins when they host struggling Plymouth Argyle at Roots Hall on Saturday.

Gilbert was recalled to the starting line-up for Tuesday night’s dramatic 1-0 win over Gillingham.

And the left-back now wants to follow that up with another three points against his former side this weekend.

“It would be brilliant to make it back-to-back wins because it’s huge if you can do that in this league,” said Gilbert, 28.

“It can really help push you higher up the table and that’s obviously what we’re aiming for.

“We want to carry on the momentum we gained from beating Gillingham and get back in to the play-off places.”

Gilbert is also keen to help make that happen and he was thrilled to be back in the starting line-up against the Gills.

The defender had endured a frustrating start to the season after losing his place in the side to Luke Prosser.

But Gilbert was recalled to face the Gills at Roots Hall and he now hopes to re-establish himself as a regular member of Blues’ back four.

“It had been frustrating not playing and I was chomping at the bit to get back out there,” said Gilbert, who had started just one of Southend’s previous nine matches this term.

“I kept my head down and worked hard to make sure I was ready when a chance did come my way.

“Hopefully I’ve done that and can stay in the side for the Plymouth game.”
