GOALS seem to be like buses for Southend United’s Peter Gilbert.

The left-back went eight years without hitting the back of the net before scoring against Plymouth Argyle.

And he then followed that up by also working his way on to the score-sheet in Blues’ 4-0 win at Rotherham United on Saturday.

“I scored two in two games eight years ago as well, so it seems to be a trend I have and they are a bit like buses for me,” said Gilbert.

“It fell nicely for me to have a shot at the weekend and it was great to see it go in.

“But hopefully I don’t have to wait another eight years for my next goal!”

Gilbert’s strike came following a short corner routine he worked with Michael Timlin.

The defender drilled home an 18-yard shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net and he was pleased to see their plan pay off.

“In previous games we’d had success at the near post from corners with both Mark Phillips and myself scoring and we knew Rotherham would have been aware of that,” said Gilbert.

“The man they therefore put on the near post wouldn’t want to move from there, so myself and Tims decided we would take the first corner we had short to catch them out and it was great we managed to score.”
