MICHAEL Timlin wants Southend United’s fans to roar the side to a seventh successive victory when they host Morecambe at Roots Hall this weekend.

But the in-form midfielder feels it is up to the team to bring the supporters to life.

Blues are expecting their biggest crowd of the season with reduced ticket prices for the top-of-the-table clash. And Timlin wants to give them plenty to cheer about after tickets were slashed to £5.

“We were told that if we beat Crewe then we would sell out for the Morecambe game but it’s up to us to make that work in our favour,” said Timlin, who is on loan with Southend from Swindon Town.

“We need to make sure we start the game well and have the fans right behind us because that would give us a great advantage in what is a massive match.”

Blues currently lead the way in League Two, with Morecambe in sixth. But Southend go in to the game full of confidence after grinding out a 3-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, thanks to a late brace from substitute Bilel Mohsni.

“We showed great character to respond after Crewe equalised and it was a good win because they’re a very good passing side,” said Timlin.

“We can certainly play better than we did there but as long as you get the result I don't think anybody can complain."
