SOUTHEND United will be taking a second look at striker Yannick Boli in today’s reserve team clash at Colchester United.

The French forward scored for Blues’ second string in their 3-1 victory over Stevenage last week.

And he will again be hoping to impress against the U’s.

“Yannick is an exciting talent and we will be having another look at him in today’s game,” confirmed Southend’s reserve team manager Graham Coughlan.

“He did OK in the game we had last week and definitely impressed when he had the ball.

“We were concerned he might not be able to deal with the physical side of things but he was kicked from pillar to post against Stevenage and stood up to it.

“He should have scored more goals as he wasted some good chances and he may also need to improve on his work for the team.

“But overall he definitely deserved a second chance and we will be keeping a close eye on how he does.”

Boli, who is the nephew of former French international defender Basile, has also attracted interest from Shrewsbury Town and Burnley.

However, he will not be the only triallist in Blues’ starting line-up today as centre-back Luke Ashworth is also expected to start.

The 21-year-old began his career with Wigan Athletic before joining Leyton Orient, where he made 13 appearances.

He then played 10 times for Rotherham United but has been without a club since being released by the Millers in May.

Lee Sawyer will also figure as he continues his come back from a thigh problem while Luke Prosser, Jemal Johnson, Kane Ferdinand, Blair Sturrock and Coughlan are also set to be named in the side.

The match, which is being played at the U’s Weston Homes Community Stadium, kicks off at 2pm.
