SOUTHEND United’s Sean Clohessy is trying to claim his side’s goal in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Morecambe.
The Blues right back saw his left footed shot volleyed past his own goalkeeper by Shrimps centre-back Stewart Drummond.
But Clohessy feels he and not Drummond should be credited with the strike which earned Southend a share of the spoils at Roots Hall.
“To be honest I’m quite surprised it’s gone down as an own goal,” said Clohessy, 24.
“My shot was on target and took a deflection on the way in so I’m definitely going to have to try and appeal against it if I can.”
Clohessy has scored just once in his 67 games for Blues and he has yet to net a home goal for the club.
