LUKE Daniels wants a bright future for both himself and Southend United.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper, who is on loan at Blues from West Bromwich Albion, has kept clean sheets in his first two games for the club.

And he is now keen to keep on doing well to maintain his and his new side’s long-term aspirations.

“It’s been going really well at Southend so far and we’ve won both matches, which is great,” said Daniels.

“I’d like to carry on helping what I think is a very good side get good results and then long-term my target is to become a Premier League goalkeeper.”

Daniels has been with West Brom since 2004 but has yet to make an appearance for their first team.

The on-loan Ben Foster is currently first choice at the Hawthorns with Martin Fulop as back up.

And Daniels is therefore fully aware that he may have to remain patient in his pursuit of a place in Roy Hodgson’s starting line-up.

“West Brom are very strong in the goalkeeping department so I will just have to wait and see what develops there,” said the custodian, who represented England at under-19 level earlier on in his career.

“I have a year left on my contract with a year’s option on that as well but rather than being in the reserves there I think it’s much better for me to go out and get some games.”
