SOUTHEND United goalkeeper Glenn Morris will be fit for Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town, despite dislocating a finger.

Morris suffered the injury during the second half of last weekend’s 3-0 win over Port Vale at Roots Hall.

But, having been seen by a specialist, the custodian has now been given the go-ahead to remain in goal at the Sixfields Stadium.

“I’ll definitely be OK for the Northampton game,” said Morris, who dislocated the little finger on his left hand.

“We will have to strap the finger up for me to play but I can’t see there being a problem at all.”

Morris picked up the problem when diving at the feet of Vale striker Marc Richards.

And he had to have the finger put back in to place on the pitch by the club’s physiotherapist Ben Clarkson.

“It was put back in but it kept on popping back out so it was all a bit messy,” said Morris, 28.

“We had to strap the finger up so I could carry on and thankfully I didn’t have too much to do after it happened.”

Morris, who was making his first start since late October, was forced to continue as Blues did not have a substitute goalkeeper.

However, the shot-stopper insisted he would have carried on even if boss Paul Sturrock did have another option on the bench.

“After what happened when I came off against Torquay I’m sure I would’ve stayed on,” said Morris, who lost his place in the side to loan signing Luke Daniels after suffering a thigh injury against the Gulls.

"I wouldn't want to give anyone else a chance to come in and play well.”
