BILEL Mohsni inspired Southend United to a 5-2 victory at Northampton Town on Saturday — just weeks after wondering if he would ever play for the club again.

Mohsni fell out with his Blues team-mates following a red card at Oldham Athletic in the FA Cup last month.

But he came back from that controversy with a bang at the Sixfields Stadium as he scored twice after coming on as a substitute for just 15 minutes to send Southend back to the top of the League Two table.

“I didn’t know if I would be staying with the club after what happened,” said Mohsni, 24.

“I knew people were angry with me for what I did in a big, big game and I’m still sorry for my behaviour.

“I appreciate being given another chance here and everyone is happy again so hopefully the team can keep on doing well.

“I want to do well too because I’m happy to be here and want to help us win the league and get promotion.”

Both of Mohsni’s goals were headers from Ryan Hall crosses and he celebrated his second effort by running to manager Paul Sturrock, who has continued to stick by the Frenchman despite all kinds of difficulties this season.

“The manager is great towards me and has always helped me here,” said Mohsni.

“He told me to calm down before I’d even come on but everything I do here is for him now and I want to play well for him even more than I want to do it for myself.

“That’s why I ran towards him when I scored.”
