THOUSANDS of Southend United fans flocked to the club’s Boots and Laces training ground for the annual Meet The Blues Day fun day.

Southend’s first team players were put through a light training session before signing autographs for supporters.

And an Essex United side, featuring former The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, then saw off a team made up of former Blues players 8-4 in an entertaining encounter.

“It was a great day and it was fantastic to see so many fans come along,” said the club’s media manager David Scriven. “We were also very grateful to our former players who came back to play as well as the Essex United team.

“It also didn’t rain for a change either so we were delighted with how well it all went.”

Steve Tilson , Leo Roget, Adrian Clarke, Nathan Jones, David Lee and Mark Beard were among those in action for the Southend side and fans were also given a glimpse of the club’s future stars with a display from the centre of excellence.

On top of that, the crowd were entertained by an amazing football freestyle display from Billy Wingrove and Jeremy Lynch before Blues’ new matchday dancers – the Wiggles Dance Club – also performed.
