SOUTHEND United fans are mourning the loss of former Blues wing half Lou Costello.
Lou — who’s real first name was Mortimer — died on Wednesday night aged 77 after suffering a heart attack.
He leaves a wife, Eunice, and sons Mark, Gary and Ian.
Lou, who lived in Doddinghurst, was born in Dagenham and joined Southend from Aldershot in August 1957.
He spent eight seasons at Roots Hall , making 266 appearances and scoring 15 goals, before joining Chelmsford City in June 1965.
Former team-mate and friend Ken Jones, who lives in Wickford , said: “Lou was a really nice guy and was a good servant to Southend United.”
Funeral details have yet to be confirmed.
