SATURDAY’S game against Exeter City will come too soon me unfortunately as I’m still struggling with the knee injury I picked up in training late last week.

I slipped over with no-one else near me and that resulted in my groin pointing outwards and my knee going inwards, which was pretty painful.

It turned out I’ve damaged the medial ligaments in my knee but thankfully it’s not as bad as it could’ve been and there’s a chance I could be fit for the Plymouth game next weekend.

I’m desperate to be back in involved as soon as I can and I would love to make the trip to Devon because then I also get to hear the new lads sing after they got out of having to do it at Cheltenham!

On the pitch it’s been a mixed week but it started off really well with a great 3-1 win at Cheltenham Town.

It showed real character to come from a goal behind to win there and it was fantastic to get our first away win of the season.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t follow that up against Gillingham on Tuesday but I actually thought we were the better team on the night.

We missed some great chances and their goalkeeper made a couple of very good saves.

But things just didn’t go our way and that included the referee’s decision.

I thought we had two stonewall penalties turned down and one of those, when Michael Timlin was fouled, just doesn’t get any more blatant.

At the other end of the field, the ref also decided to award Gillingham a penalty which won them the game.

Being honest, I would have been disappointed if we hadn’t have got a spot-kick if that had happened when we were attacking.

However, having decided to not give our penalties I can’t see how he can give theirs.

There’s just no consistency there and it cost us because we’ve ended up losing the game.

The match was also held up for quite some time in the opening exchanges so our goalkeeper Paul Smith could receive treatment.

He was out cold for a while and I think he might also have a broken nose. Smudge won’t be involved on Saturday and that could give young Daniel Bentley a chance against Exeter.

He’s worked incredibly hard on his game in the last 12 months and may well be given an opportunity.

It will be tough against Exeter though as they’ve made a great start to the season and have a very strong spine to their side.

We obviously know all about Pat Baldwin at centre-back and going forward they have Jamie Cureton who’s scoring a lot of goals.

He’s even older than me but it just goes to show that your age doesn’t really matter in the modern game.
