KEVAN Hurst wants to finally bring Southend United some sunshine against Morecambe tomorrow.

Blues have never beaten the Shrimps and have lost three of their four meetings against them.

But Hurst, who spent four months on loan with Morecambe in 2011, is keen to end that wretched record.

“I really enjoyed playing for Morecambe and they’re a good club but obviously I hope we can get one over on them this weekend,” said Hurst, 27.

“I still know a few of the lads there and they’re good players so I’m expecting us to facing another difficult game.

“Morecambe are a big side and we will have to be very switched on from set pieces.

“But we played very well to win at Rotherham last week and, if we can match that again, I think we can get three points tomorrow.”

Hurst helped Blues beat the Millers 3-0 with an impressive display in a more central midfield position.

And the 27-year-old would relish remaining in that role.

“I used to play there when I was younger and I quite enjoy it in there,” said Hurst.

“If I’m playing there again that’s great but I don’t really mind where I’m picked to be honest.

“I just want to be playing and I’m really looking forward to going back to Morecambe.

“It’s a long way to go but I have happy memories from playing there and hopefully I’ll have a few more after the weekend.”

Blues will again be without defender Luke Prosser (buttock) and striker Neil Harris (knee) while fellow forward Barry Corr will also be absent with a groin injury which is worse than first feared.

However, centre-back Mark Phillips is back in contention after recovering from a groin injury and manager Paul Sturrock must decide whether or not to hand him an immediate recall.

If he does, then Chris Barker is likely to revert to left-back in place of Anthony Straker, leaving Phillips to partner Ryan Cresswell at the heart of the back four.

John Spicer is also available again after serving a three match suspension.
