ESSEX pair Reece Topley and Ben Foakes were unable to prevent England’s Under-19s crashing out of the ICC World Cup.
The Young Lions lost by 103 runs against South Africa, in today's quarter-final in Townsville, Australia.
Both Colchester and East Essex men played key roles for their side, despite the disappointing outcome.
Left-arm seamer Topley took three wickets for 45 runs in his ten overs, as South Africa batted first and made 244.
Frinton member Foakes, who lives in Kirby-le-Soken, then scored 54 to see his side past the hundred-mark, but England suffered a dramatic collapse and were all out for 141. They had been well-placed on 103 for two when Foakes departed, having struck four fours and a six in his 72-ball innings.
