BILLERICAY Cricket Club will be throwing open its doors on Sunday to host a charity match as part of Essex star Ravi Bopara’s benefit year.

Essex will take on a Lord’s Taverners XI in a 35-over per side match at the club’s home in Blunts Wall Road.

As well as current Essex players, there will be a host of well known names from the cricketing and entertainment worlds expected on the day.

“Admission is free to this family fun day, where the stars on show will be raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital, Magic Bus, Indian Ocean Disaster Relief Fund, Essex Cricket Community Trust and of course, the Lord's Taverners,” said a spokesman for the club.

“There will be plenty to see and do for everyone, so bring the family and tell your friends!”

Among the celebrities due to attend are former professional crickets Darren Gough, Graham Gooch, Paul Pritchard, Devon Malcolm and Paul Taylor.

Other famous faces set to appear on the day are Michael Parkinson, Chris Tarrant, Trevor McDonald and Perry Fenwick.

The event starts at 12.30pm on Sunday, August 23, with the match beginning at 1pm.

Tea is scheduled for 3pm when the celebrities will be mingling with spectators before the second innings starts around 4pm.

The event is expected to conclude around 6pm when presentations will be made.

Admission is free and there will be a raffle.
