THE wet weather on Saturday hit the Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League hard.

And there were few winners among the south Essex clubs in the games that survived.

Hadleigh & Thundersley lost out after Harlow were handed a revised total at John Burrows in Division One.

Captain Adam Fleming led the way with 40 and steadied the innings with the hosts on 68-6.

And Sam Rowe contributed 27 before Hadleigh reached 175-8 from their 45 overs, Andrew McGarry claiming 4-26.

Harlow were set a revised target of 78 from 20 overs and things started well for Hadleigh when they reduced their visitors to 10-2 thanks to David Williams (1-8) and Joe Robbins (1-16). But Rehman Ahmed (40no) and Ahmed Khawaja (18no) saw Harlow to 81-2.

Southend on Sea & EMT also lost out to a revised target against Hornchurch at Southchurch Park.

Ben Wathen (50), Wayne Spear (32) and Modassar Ibrahim (30) anchored the Seasiders’ innings of 190-8 from 50 overs, with Mark Whitlock taking 3-34.

Openers Paul Murray (35) and Bill Gordon (23) made inroads and 33 extras helped Hornchurch achieved their revised target of 95-3 in 21.4 overs.

Wickford are second in Division Two after defeating seventh-placed hosts Old Southendian & Southchurch by nine wickets at Southchurch Park. Liam Hendrickse top-scored with 42 before the Old Boys were bowled out for 90 in 27 overs, with Chirag Desai taking 3-12 and Andy Baker 3-5.

Naeem Uddin led the run chase with an unbeaten 51, with Matthew Nobes hitting 20 and Tanvir Alam 8no in their winning 94-1 reply. Zach Dunkley (1-37) took the only wicket.

Stanford le Hope are third following their four-wicket defeat at home to Harold Wood.

The hosts were bowled out for 160 in 44.1 overs before rain forced the teams off. Harold Wood were set a revised target and won with 87-6 off 25 overs.

Leigh on Sea are fourth despite suffering a 157-run defeat to hosts Belhus after being set a revised target of 193 to win off 20 overs.

Simon Burch clubbed 85 runs and skipper Dean Waller added 35 but Leigh were bowled out for 175 off 20 overs, as Daniel Dreher took 3-40 and Dale Kenyon 2-26.

Earlier Joe Joyce top-scored with 105, Gavin Jefferies hit 75 and Danny Joyce 54 to help Belhus to 332-7 from 50 overs, with Sean Bell claiming 3-62.

Fifth-placed Horndon on the Hill defeated bottom club Basildon & Pitsea by seven wickets at home after being set a revised target of 114 off 20 overs.

Danny Gray hit an unbeaten 87 and Lloyd Lambert 31 as Basildon reached 196-7 off 50 overs. Liam Hubbard led the attack with 4-39.

Horndon’s reply was led by Kashif Nizami (30no) and captain Jeff West (23no) as they replied with 115-3 from 16.2 overs, with Dan Bedford taking 2-21.

Westcliff are ninth after securing a seven-wicket victory over Gidea Park & Romford at Chalkwell Park in a match affected by rain.

Aqeel Rafiq, Callum Druce and Gary Vann took a brace each as Gidea Park reached 211-8 from 50 overs, with Rudi Filmalter hitting 38.

The rain saw Westcliff’s innings reduced to 34 overs and a revised target of 178. Jonathan Pratt walloped an unbeaten 104, with Peter Barnes (32) and Sam Weller (24) helping the hosts to 181-3 off 32.5 overs.

Billericay marched ever closer to promotion in Division Three as they maintained their unbeaten run at the top of the table.

The leaders put their Pegasus & Corringham hosts into bat and bowled them out for 58 in 21.3 overs.

Paul Walter (5-29), Greg Hammond (3-15), David Houghton (1-12) and Philip Reynolds (1-2) did the damage as five batsmen went for ducks and three others for single-figure totals.

Only Harry Morgan-James (20) and Martyn Hathaway (12no) had any joy batting at eight and nine.

Michael Smith hit 14 but two quick wickets gave Pegasus some hope, but Walter (23no) and David Houghton (11no) guided Billericay to 59-3 off 14.3 overs to leave Pegs bottom of the table.

Benfleet are eighth in the standings after their match away to Hutton was abandoned.

Skipper David Wright had led the charge with 68 as Benfleet reached 182-7 off their 50 overs, but then rain ended the match without Hutton batting.
