TEN-MAN Concord Rangers couldn’t halt league leaders Maidenhead United’s march towards the National League South title as they went down 2-0 this afternoon.

The Beach Boys conceded two penalties and saw defender Taylor McKenzie sent off early in the second-half in front of more than 1,400 supporters.

The hosts started brightly and could have taken the lead as early as four minutes in. Jack Parkinson sent a header at goal but Bailey Vose was right behind the effort.

But Maidenhead did go ahead on 10 minutes. Sean Marks finished a neat move with a perfectly timed lob which beat Vose all ends up.

It should have been 2-0 10 minutes later after a foul in the penalty area following some poor defending, with the referee awarding a penalty.

But Vose made a spectacular save to deny league top scorer Dave Tarpey.

And five minutes later Concord shot themselves in the foot once again as Audrius Laucys was adjudged to have handled in the box and another penalty was awarded.

Tarpey made no mistake second time around.

Level at the break, Concord’s task was made even more difficult when McKenzie was dismissed three minutes into the second-half after a high tackle on Ryan Peters.

But Concord gathered themselves and fought back well – Dion Sembie-Ferris’ strike well gathered by Carl Pentney in the home goal.

Adam Flanagan’s men continued to push but couldn’t find a route back into the match as they turn their attentions to Whitehawk on Monday.
